Judi Geer Kellas grew up on the Gulf Coast of the southern United States. Both parents painted so she began painting when about 8 years old.
Geer Kellas has a BA in Fine Art & a MA in Painting. She married George Kellas and moved to the Midwest in 1968. Geer Kellas taught at KU in the early 1970s and opened the 7E7 Gallery in 1972. She sold the gallery in 1983 to return to her art studio full time. Now, she works in her studio daily.
Mixed-media paintings, silverpoint drawings, serigraphs & linocuts are her principal media.
She has a creative passion which began in 1996: women in aviation.
Her work uses women's history to encourage appreciation, respect and recognition for the magnificent women in aviation, from 1910 to the present.
An ongoing series, "Celebration of Flight: Women in Aviation," Geer Kellas has created more than 40 paintings, drawings and original prints to honor women in aviation. The series embodies the artist's missions to preserve the birth and living heritage of women in aviation and to inform and inspire today's art audience by commemorating the lives of these women.
