Biography : |
San Francisco born Larry Lapadura is a self-taught artist and began his love for aviation by sketching aircraft and building models as a boy during WW II. After a hitch in the Marines as a rifleman in the 1950s, he served a union apprenticeship and made his living as a carpenter. It was during this period he learned how to paint with acrylics while working as a carpenter at a Bay Area museum, and watching a landscape artist paint the diorama backgrounds for wildlife exhibits. He took mental notes of the technique used by this artist and wrote down the types of paints used. That was in 1969. Now retired, he devotes his time to painting aircraft and hot rods, another part of his life and another story. He has published limited edition prints of some of his work. His work is in private collections in the U.S. and abroad. |
